What if you stitched your favorite garden? During this day with Jenn McMillan, you will create a unique floral composition using hand appliqué. Appliqué is a technique where you cut shapes out of fabric and sew them onto a background with small stitches.
You start from your own inspiration: your favorite flowers, a bouquet, your corner of the garden. You leave with a unique piece, ready to become a tote bag, a jacket patch, the first block of a quilt, or a piece of art to frame.
Depending on the size of your composition, you may have a few pieces left to sew at home. The transformation into a bag, jacket, or quilt is done afterward on your own. No machine is required, so it's the perfect project to continue on the couch!
- Level: All levels. No experience is required; motivated beginners are welcome. If you have already tried needle-turn appliqué (where you fold the edge of the fabric with the tip of the needle as you sew), you will progress faster.
- Audience: Adults
- Format and location: In-person session at the Atelier, 5500 Fullum #106, Montreal (Rosemont)
- Duration: 1 session of 6 hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m., lunch break included)
- Group size: maximum 15 participants
- Language: Bilingual (French and English)
Materials: included, to bring, and to purchase
- Included: all workshop materials, except the tools listed under "To purchase." Jenn will also bring reference books on flowers.

- Your inspiration: photos of flowers, bouquets, or your garden, printed or on your phone.
- Optional: a fat quarter (a piece of fabric approximately 18 x 22 in.) for the background, and your favorite fabric scraps.

To purchase if you don't already have them:
- appliqué pins;
- milliner's needles (long and fine, ideal for appliqué);
- fine thread, weight 60 to 100.

- During the same session, you can only postpone one course .
- If you cancel your registration before the start of the session, you will be given a full refund.
- If you cancel after the session has started, you will receive a refund of 90% of the amount paid, less fees for courses already taken.

How to choose the right sewing course?
“I don’t know how to use a sewing machine.”
Choose Initiation and free project and check Initiation ($28 of materials for the 1st project).
You will learn the basic operation of the sewing machine starting with the first mandatory project, a zippered pouch, the first 2 weeks. You will then be able to make a free project by choosing it with the help of the teacher.
“I know how to use a sewing machine, but I need help with everything else.”
Choose Initiation and Free Project , do not check Initiation!
From the first class, bring your printed pattern and all the materials you need to complete your project.
* We advise you to start your project on your own, if you are able, to take full advantage of the learning time with your teacher.
“I have to miss a class, what do I do?”
Atelier Espace Fabrik cannot be held responsible if a student is unable to attend their class or if the retakes offered do not fit into their schedule.

“How do I resume my course?”
Contact us at info@espacefabrik.com to receive your course resumption code.
You can then book your course resumption time slot online by visiting the A la carte Courses page.
If you are unable to attend your course resumption, it is your responsibility to notify us 24 hours in advance and reschedule your resumption by starting the procedure again.
Day Camp Cancellation Policy
If possible, please notify us 4 weeks before the start of the camp to allow another young person to participate.
Cancellation of a registration is authorized up to 10 business days before the start of the camp week. However, there is a non-refundable administrative fee of $40. No refund will be given if you cancel your registration less than 10 business days before the start of the reserved week. Registration fees will be refunded only upon presentation of a medical certificate.

A course for young people or adults?
The Youth classes are mainly attended by children aged 8 to 14 and the atmosphere is often lively and friendly!
If your teenager prefers calm and fiercely protects his bubble, adult classes will welcome him with open arms.
