How to turn your old sweater into rope (T-Shirt Yarn)

I explain how to transform an old sweater into trapihlo (yarn t-shirt). You can then use this rope to knit, crochet, weave, use it as a cord on clothing or for many craft projects. There are really lots of uses.
For example, this Halloween project.

It was so much fun to do, that I think I'm going to do it on all my next worn and stained sweaters instead of donating them.

Materials Required:
  • Fabric scissors
  • An old sweater

Here are the steps:
  1. Cut under the sleeves.
  2. Cut the hem of the sweater, just at the top of the seam.
  3. Fold in 2, leaving one side approximately 2.5cm longer.
  4. Cut strips of approximately 2cm without cutting the 2.5cm part that protrudes.
  5. Unfold cut diagonally to make a long strip
  6. Pull the fabric while holding it in your hands, repeat this step a second time for a tighter result.
  7. To see how to cut the top part of the sweater, watch the video starting at 4:00 min.
  8. Tie the ropes together using a knot and wrap them to prevent them from getting mixed up.
