How to turn your old sweater into rope (T-Shirt Yarn)
I explain how to transform an old sweater into trapihlo (yarn t-shirt). You can then use this rope to knit, crochet, weave, use it as a cord on clothing or for many craft projects. There are really lots of uses.
For example, this Halloween project.
It was so much fun to do, that I think I'm going to do it on all my next worn and stained sweaters instead of donating them.
Materials Required:
-
Fabric scissors
-
An old sweater
Here are the steps:
-
Cut under the sleeves.
-
Cut the hem of the sweater, just at the top of the seam.
-
Fold in 2, leaving one side approximately 2.5cm longer.
-
Cut strips of approximately 2cm without cutting the 2.5cm part that protrudes.
-
Unfold cut diagonally to make a long strip
-
Pull the fabric while holding it in your hands, repeat this step a second time for a tighter result.
-
Tie the ropes together using a knot and wrap them to prevent them from getting mixed up.
